Meet the team

Picture of Kusminder

Kusminder Chahal is Stop Hate UK’s Director of Training Services and Senior Research Fellow, Birmingham City University.

His profile can be viewed here. Kusminder has extensive experience as a researcher, trainer, and practitioner in the broad area of Hate Crime and equality, diversity, and inclusion. He has trained over 7500 participants at all levels of an organisation. Kusminder has worked directly with hate crime victims and published practiced based resources including Supporting victims of hate crime and with Chartered Institute of Housing how-to-support-hate-crime-victims-may-20.pdf (cih.org). His research on racist victimisation has been described as ‘essential reading’ and ‘a research exemplar’.  Kusminder has undertaken projects on hate crime in the USA, Europe, and Japan.

John is Stop Hate UK’s Assistant Director for Helpline Contracts and Training Services, and has been with the charity since March 2022.

Based in Merseyside, John plays a key role in responding to and developing tailor-made training sessions and presentations to a full range of authorities, organisations and educational establishments that meets any specific learning needs.

Having previously worked with Victim Support and the Anthony Walker Foundation, John has almost 30 years of experience working with Criminal Justice partners, local and regional authorities, third sector, corporate and community groups.

He uses his experience and understanding to share, encourage and influence change for the good in settings ranging from Community Safety Strategy partnerships to small groups of young people and staff in the full range of educational settings.

His own lived experiences of discrimination and those gained from his work directly supporting individuals, families and communities form the foundation on which John performs his role, committed to improving the quality of life for those that Stop Hate UK, and our partners, provide services.

John is currently overseeing training programmes Stop Hate UK is delivering in Leeds, Sutton and Merton to young people in schools and colleges, community members and professionals and is experienced in delivering to a full range of audiences.

John is meticulous with his training responsibilities always looking to update learning resources to facilitate learning and deeper understanding to benefit all those who take up Stop Hate UK’s training services. This is evidenced by the development of our much-requested Anti-Muslim hate/ Islamophobia awareness sessions and our Antisemitism sessions delivered in recent months to NHS England; Great Ormond Street Hospital; the Diocese of Liverpool; Executive Boards and Elected Members across the country.

Alice is Stop Hate UK’s Education and Training Project Worker.

Based in West Yorkshire, Alice is committed to fostering safer and more inclusive communities through education and awareness. With a passion for empowering young minds, she has been at the forefront of initiatives in Leeds schools aimed at raising awareness of Hate Crime among primary and secondary school students.

Drawing from over a decade of experience in training and working with young people, Alice brings a wealth of expertise to her role. Her engaging and dynamic approach has resonated with diverse audiences, from schools to colleges, councils, and local organisations.

Currently pursuing a degree in Childhood and Youth Studies with the Open University, Alice possesses a nuanced understanding of identity, representation, and communication dynamics among young individuals. This academic pursuit enriches her ability to connect with students and tailor interventions that resonate with their experiences and aspirations.

Alice's versatility extends to her delivery methods, seamlessly transitioning between online and in-person sessions to accommodate diverse learning environments. Her recent engagements span a spectrum of educational institutions and community stakeholders, reflecting her commitment to fostering inclusive spaces and promoting social cohesion.

With a steadfast dedication to promoting empathy, understanding, and respect, Alice continues to be a driving force in creating a more equitable and harmonious society for future generations.

Kamaria is Stop Hate UK's Education and Training Project Worker.

 

Based in West Midlands, Kamaria joined Stop Hate UK on an internship in University, and has continued working for the charity after her graduation, fully committed in the work of eradicating hate crimes, discrimination and intolerance in society. 

 

Kamaria uses her lived experiences to inform an empathetic approach to understanding how hate and discrimination impacts individuals and societies. In her sessions, she adopts a root cause-based analysis to determine why and how hate crimes manifest, and how we can challenge instances of microaggressions, negative stereotypes, rhetoric and unconscious bias in order to intervene in the early stages.

Apart from her training services, Kamaria is also a content marketing coordinator and web designer.

Rose Simkins is Stop Hate UK's Chief Executive.

Rose joined Stop Hate UK in January 2006 as Chief Executive and has led the Charity through a significant period of growth and change, developing it from a racial harassment focused organisation, into one that now covers every aspect of Hate Crime, through its pioneering 24-hour reporting services.

Her career started in 1993 where she worked for more than 20 years in Housing Management and Homelessness, and a further 7 years leading a Refugee and Asylum support service. Her drive for eradicating social injustices has always been at the forefront of her work where equality and diversity are key to making this happen. This passion is embodied in both her working and personal life.

Rose has sat on several scrutiny advisory panels and is a sought-after speaker and facilitator as well as a regular contributor and spokesperson in local and national press and media, most recently a podcast guest on a special live episode of the Hidden Hate podcast recorded at the premiere of Revisiting the Harms of Hate film. She is a leading voice in the fight against hate and intolerance, known for her ability to engage audiences and inspire action.
